When stacking your hay, a few things are very important: the stack pad, the location of the stack and the stacking itself.
First of all, where will your storage be located? Whatever storage option you choose, careful consideration and planning is a must. The following should be considered: water run off, wind, and accessibility, transport and distance to field.
When developing your stack pad, keep in mind that a good base of 4-6 inches of crushed rock will elevate your product and help prevent wicking. A good ground base is a must, since studies have shown that ground contact can account for over half of all dry matter losses.
